Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, Akihisa Hirose is an innovative educator with many years of experience in the field of cross-cultural communication. He has lived in Mexico for the past twenty-one years, and is president of the highly regarded Spanish language school Sociedad Intercultural, located in Mexico City and Cuernavaca, which he founded in 1996.
Sociedad Intercultural provides Spanish language courses to many of the largest Japanese companies in Mexico, and also helps Japanese living in Mexico to understand the subtleties of Mexican culture and improve their communication skills in working with Mexicans colleagues.
Akihisa is also an accomplished interpreter and translator between Japanese and Spanish. From 1991 to 1994 he worked as an in-house interpreter at Nissan Mexicana, and as a freelance translator he has rendered numerous books, articles, and other texts from Japanese into Spanish, as well as from Spanish into Japanese. Since March 2003 he has also served as the director of the Mexico branch of the Hispanic Society of Japan (Casa de Espa–a).
Akihisa earned his B.A. degree in literature from Meiji University in 1986. In addition to his native Japanese, he is fluent in Spanish, and communicates well in English in a business setting.
