Chiyoko Ono
Consultant - Northern California, USA

A Silicon Valley veteran, Chiyoko Ono has more than 19 years of experience working with innovative technology companies in the United States and Japan, ranging from world-class start-ups to major multi-national corporations. She assists companies with many phases of the implementation of business development strategies, including market communications, joint venture and strategic alliance development.

A native of Japan, Chiyoko is a graduate of Tohoku University and received an MBA from the Darden School of the University of Virginia. She began her career in Tokyo as a member of the entrepreneurial corporate communications team at Sony Corporation of Japan.

Chiyoko has worked in Silicon Valley since 1989, initially as technology marketing consulting firm Regis McKenna Inc.’s first head of its Japan Business Practice. At Regis McKenna, she worked extensively with emerging companies in creating new markets, including clients such as Apple, Sandisk, GO and General Magic. Her focus is developing and implementing business development strategies for the Japanese market, by building go-to-market strategies that create successful business relationships encompassing the entire value chain.

Chiyoko has worked as an independent consultant since 1996, advising founders and management teams of technology-based companies from start-up through commercial success. By working closely with the client’s team, she produces implementable strategies and action plans for developing the Japanese market. And she participates hands-on to help successfully execute these strategies, including market education strategies and programs and channel strategies.

In her work with Japan Intercultural Consulting, Chiyoko is continuing to advise American firms that wish to hone their strategies for the Japanese market. Chiyoko is also bringing her perspective of how American startups and multinationals approach working with Japanese firms to bear in helping Japanese companies be more successful in those relationships. She is also leveraging her knowledge of how to be effective in the U.S. environment and Silicon Valley to help Japanese firms that wish to establish, expand, or streamline their operations here.
