Steven Gan comes to Japan Intercultural bringing an extensive and highly unique experience with Japan beginning with his first internship at Yokogawa Denki in the summer of 1980. From 1989 until 1991 Steven Gan worked as a controller in the Land Mobile Service Division for Nippon Motorola in Tokyo and managed the financial activities of its 10 service centers throughout the country. While working at Motorola, Steven was also involved in in-house education, including designing and leading sessions on marketing and financial topics.
Steven then went on to become a successful entrepreneur in Japan, establishing Japan's first foreign owned debt collection agency, Advance & Associates Co., Ltd. He also wrote a book about his experiences, which was published by Japan’s second largest publisher and sold over 20,000 copies. Concurrently, Steven was also active in providing training and development support to Japanese companies focusing on the basics of business, finance, and accounting, for firms such as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Nippon Motorola, Schindler Elevator Japan, Levi Strauss Japan, KPMG, and Hewlett Packard.
In April of 2005, after 15 years of residing in Japan, Steven Gan moved back to the Chicago area and in addition to his collaboration with Japan Intercultural Consulting has been operating his new company, Stellar Risk Management Services, Inc.
Steven is completely fluent in Japanese and is an experienced and engaging presenter in both English and Japanese. His combination of thorough business knowledge and in-depth understanding of Japanese culture make him an ideal facilitator for sessions that combine business and cultural topics.
Steven graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in Electrical Engineering and from the Thunderbird – Garvin Graduate School with a Masters of International Management. He is also a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Credit Executive, and a licensed Commercial Credit Insurance Specialist, and is one of the few non-Japanese who have passed Japan's insurance examinations.
