Japan Intercultural Consulting is pleased to announce that Michael Graybill has joined our firm and will be taking on the role of South Carolina Representative.

South Carolina is an important destination for Japanese-affiliated companies, who have invested over $4.9 billion in the state and employ over 15,000 workers. There are also many South Carolina companies that are active in the Japanese market and selling to Japanese customers.

Michael Graybill's career has been focused on working with Japanese companies doing business in the United States and American companies engaged in business in Japan. For seventeen years, he worked for a Japanese company, Kameyama USA, Inc. where he held the position of General Manager and was promoted to Vice President and Director of U.S. operations. Following this, Michael worked for six years as an outside consultant/trainer in the area of Japanese-American cross-cultural issues for Johnson & Johnson (Vision Care).

Michael grew up in Japan, lived there for eighteen years, and speaks fluent Japanese. Michael earned his B.A. in Far East Area Studies from Sophia University (Tokyo, Japan) and from there went to Harvard University (Cambridge, MA) earning a Master's degree in Japanese Studies and then spent several years studying various Japanese-related subjects in a Ph.D. program.

Michael will lead JIC’s first open seminar on Japanese business culture in Greenville, South Carolina on May 27th, 2014. Join Michael as he draws upon his extensive experience to illustrate important differences between the U.S. and Japanese business cultures, and provide specific strategies for improving communication with Japanese colleagues.

Seminar details and registration information can be found here.

Michael is also available for in-house seminars and consultation with clients. He can be reached at (864) 266-1245 and
