David “Chet” Chetwynd is a strategy consultant and cross-cultural advisor with over 30 years of international business and leadership experience. He has lived in Asia and worked with Japanese companies across five continents, building trusted relationships and helping teams collaborate more effectively.
Chet leverages over 15 years of senior executive experience at Hitachi, where he worked directly for Japanese CEOs, managed Japanese employees, and was pivotal in bridging cultural gaps to translate strategy into global results with high-performing global teams. For example, his work at Hitachi helped bridge Japanese engineering strengths with global go to market practices to bring a disruptive innovation to the global market. This fueled profitability and allowed Chet’s team to win support for subsequent acquisitions, which he helped to execute and successfully integrate.
Chet’s consulting approach is grounded in strategic insight, respectful of cultural nuance, and focused on practical outcomes. With experience ranging from building high-performing cross-cultural teams to guiding post-merger integration, he supports Japanese companies in understanding and addressing global complexity by applying a hybrid management approach that preserves and respects their core values while contributing to better global outcomes.
Chet is active in the U.S.–Japan business community, serving on the board of the Japan-America Society of North Carolina. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Virginia and an MBA from UNC-Chapel Hill.
