Gan was raised and educated in Malaysia, completed his college education in Japan, received his MS degree in Japanese Business Studies in Hawaii, lived and worked in Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and China for many years, before settling down in his home country Singapore in 2017 and providing training and consulting services in the field of Marketing, Leadership and Communication to companies in the region. He is proficient in Mandarin, English and Japanese, and is passionate in helping people working effectively in cross-cultural environments. From early stage of his career, he has learned the lesson of “The meaning of communication is the response you get,” and has been practicing it.
Before becoming a consultant, he was associated with a Japanese large company in the automobile industry for nearly 27 years. Starting as a local staff in Singapore, he travelled extensively in ASEAN countries in his work as a Marketing Analyst, worked his way up to managerial level of the subsidiary, and was then assigned to work at the regional headquarters and overseas affiliates as an expatriate in Thailand, Vietnam and China for 13 years and has hence gained substantial insights and experience in working with Japanese expatriates as well as with local staff in these countries. He was the Vice President in charge of Sales, Marketing, and Aftersales Services for the automobile business in Vietnam for 4 years. At his final position in China, he was tasked to conduct an internal training for about 700 middle level managers and key personnels of all 16 affiliated companies on the company’s philosophy in Mandarin and English (Hong Kong) for the local staff, and in Japanese for the Japanese expatriates.
