Marian Moya holds a Ph.D. in Sociology (Rikkyo University, Tokyo, Japan), an MA in Sociology of Media (Rikkyo University), and an MA in Cultural Anthropology (University of Buenos Aires). She has extensive theoretical and practical experience in the fields of organizational culture, ethnography of consumer and corporate internal operations, cultural diversity, cross-cultural communication, and social media.
Marian was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and lived in Japan for ten years (in Osaka and Tokyo). While living in Japan, she had the opportunity to work, and to gain a deep knowledge of Japanese corporate culture, in companies such as Nissan Motor Company, Mitsubishi Motors, Sumitomo Corporation, Toyota Motor Corporation, and Japanese National Railways as a language and cultural consultant. She also served as a visiting professor at Sophia University (Tokyo, Japan), where she taught Japanese popular culture.
Currently, Marian is a professor at the University of Buenos Aires and at the Open University of Catalunya, where she teaches applied anthropology (including business anthropology), and social and cultural anthropology. She has published books and articles on Japanese culture, Latin America and Japan, and globalization and cultural issues, and has lectured on these topics in several countries as well. Her books include Miradas Profundas (Buenos Aires: Antropofagia, 2008) and Antropología Aplicada (forthcoming in 2011). She speaks English, Spanish, Japanese, and French, and also has knowledge of Catalan, Portuguese, and Italian.
