Teruko was born and raised in the Kobe area of Japan. She began her career at Proctor & Gamble Far East, Inc. where she worked for seven years. Teruko worked at The Proctor & Gamble Company in Cincinnati, Ohio for 14 years in a variety of roles focused on support for research and development, product marketing, external relations and legal functions. This experience gives her deep insight into the operations of an American company, enabling her to compare and contrast with Japanese corporate management approaches.
Teruko has also worked as an interpreter, and is trained in both consecutive and simultaneous interpreting. She also has experience teaching Japanese.
Teruko holds licenses as a Sogetsu Ikebana (Japanese Flower Arrangement) Certified Instructor, and as a Japanese Calligraphy Kana 2-Dan instructor. In addition, she received a Urasenke Tea Ceremony Beginner Accreditation in 2018.
In addition to her work with Japan Intercultural Consulting, Teruko is the owner of the Hanamiya cultural gift shop in Montgomery, Ohio.
Teruko holds an MBA with a concentration in International Business from Xavier University. Her BA was in English and American Literature from Kobe Kaisei (Stella Maris) College.
