April 27, 2025 【 Column: Leap Before You Look 】
I decided to write my column, Leap Before You Look, as an audacious attempt to put my experience as a Japanese woman living and working in the US in words both in English and in Japanese.
Working as a translator and an interpreter, it was a natural decision for me to publish my column in two languages. In addition, I sprinkled some 日本語 (Japanese) in my English column and made it partially bilingual mainly for the purpose of providing some tools for people who are learning Japanese.
The column is published on the Japan Intercultural Consulting website. By clicking on 日本語 from the dropdown menu at the top right, you can read any entire essay in Japanese. You can also test and strengthen your listening comprehension using the audio player embedded on each page.
If there are even a small number of people who find my column interesting, I’d be thrilled. After all, I’m writing this column with blind faith that others will find it worthwhile reading.
Below are the links to the essays I have so far published. I hope you enjoy.
