October 30, 2013 Japan Intercultural Consulting welcomes new consultant, Elizabeth Floyd Mair, in Albany NY

Albany is fast becoming a hub for high-tech and nanoscale research, with the presence of innovative organizations including the SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, GE, Global Foundries and many others. And with high-tech often comes involvement with Japanese, so as a result more and more companies in the Albany area are beginning to do business with Japanese — whether within the same company, or with manufacturers, customers, joint venture partners, or investors.

A native of Albany, Elizabeth Floyd Mair holds an MFA in East Asian Languages and Literature (Japanese) from the University of Iowa. She lived and worked in Tokyo for 15 years, at the major Japanese bank Yasuda Trust and at publisher Kodansha International. Since returning to the U.S., she has taught at Bennington College and University of Albany and served as an interpreter for Japanese and American engineers working together on high tech projects. Through this varied work experience, she has gained an in-depth understanding of Japanese business practices and how they differ from those that are typical in the U.S.

We’re giving Albany-area business people an opportunity to sample Elizabeth’s knowledge of Japanese culture and learn how to strengthen their business relations with Japanese.  Join Elizabeth on Nov 12, 2013 as she draws upon her extensive experience to illustrate important cultural differences in a seminar entitled “WORKING EFFECTIVELY WITH JAPANESE”
